Michael L. Riehlen Sr., 71, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at Hospice Franciscan Communities in Michigan City, Indiana. He was born Aug. 9, 1946, in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Donald Riehle and Vivian (Binkley) Riehle. Michael was raised in Knox, Indiana, and attended Knox High School. He participated in sports programs throughout his school years. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. After serving his country he worked at American Home Foods, bartended at Smutzer's Club Tavern, Allis Chalmers, Whirlpool Corp. and the Herald Argus. Michael enjoyed sports of all kinds. He was a huge Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He loved watching his son and grandchildren participate in sports. He spent many years at Ye Old Pipe Shoppe making many good friends and drinking many cups of coffee. On Jan. 10, 1970, in La Porte, Indiana, he married Sherry (Wood) Riehle who survives in La Porte, Indiana. He is also survived by his son, Michael (Amy) Riehle of La Porte, Indiana; daughter, Brandi (Austin Putchhaven) Morrow of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister, Donna Toth of Hamlet, Indiana; three grandchildren, Peyton Riehle, Shelby Riehle, Aiden Putchhaven; two nephews, Bryan Adams, Donald Toth; niece, Stefanie (Christopher) Olson; three great-nephews, Austin Adams, Devon Toth, Grant Olson; two great-nieces, Zoe Adams, Delilah Toth. Michael was preceded in death by both his parents and brother-in-law, Steve Toth. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana. There will be no visitation or service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Unity Foundation of La Porte County in care of De Camps Band of Brothers Foundations, 422 Franklin St. Ste C, Michigan City, Indiana 46360.
