Henry S. Gromski
July 30, 1915 - Feb. 8, 2006
Henry S. Gromski of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2006, in Hospice House from complications of a stroke at the age of 90. Henry was born July 30, 1915, in Joliet, Illinois, to the late John and Frances (Mrozek) Gromski. He had lived in the South Bend area for most of his life. On January 17, 1941, in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Terre Coupe, he married Florence Krol, who survives. Henry is survived by three daughters, Gerrie (Joe) Gorny, Karen (Mike) Kurtis (South Bend) and Carol Gromski (Mishawaka); five grandchildren, Bob (Lori) Gorny, Kathie (Kevin) Matuszak, Mark Kurtis, Gary (Deirdre) Kurtis and Kris Kurtis; four great-grandchildren, Emily and Bradley Matuszak, and Alex and Meghan Haab. Other survivors include his brothers, William (Esther) and Walter (Mildred) Gromski. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Janet, and his sister, Helen Cyman. He was a member of Local 172, working as a plumber and pipefitter since 1948. He was also a mmber of the Polish Falcons of America, MR Falcons Nest 4. Advertisement. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, February 10, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 North Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN 46628, where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held in Holy Family Church, 56407 Mayflower Road, South Bend, on Saturday, February 11, 2006, at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Henry's memory may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and caregivers at Memorial Hospital's 7th Floor Stroke Unit and at Hospice House for their care and compassion.
