SOUTH BEND - Geraldyne Wantuch, 92, passed away at 1:20 AM EST Tuesday, January 28, 2014, in the Oak Grove Health Care Center in Rutherfordton, NC. Geraldyne was born on June 23, 1921, in South Bend to Henry and Harriet Rybicki. Geraldyne was the oldest of 4 children, John Henry Rybicki (Leona), Alice O'Chap all of South Bend, and James L. Rybicki (Lola) of Florida. Geraldyne married Aloysius "Johnny" Wantuch in 1945 and they had three children, Timothy John Wantuch and Robert H. Wantuch (Kelly) of South Bend, and James A. Wantuch (Linda) of Bostic, NC. Geraldyne was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Harriet Rybicki; husband, Aloysius Wantuch; and her son, Timothy John Wantuch. Geraldyne is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was employed by Stone Container in South Bend for many years and retired in 1980. She moved later with her husband to Forest City, NC. Geraldyne was noted for her kindness and love of children. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church on Calvert Street in South Bend on Thursday morning at 10:00 AM, Feb. 6, 2014. Burial will take place at The St. Joseph Cemetery on Western Ave. Visitations will be set for February 5th, Wednesday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM EST in the St. Joseph Funeral Home in South Bend, who have been entrusted with the arrangements. A Rosary will be prayed on Wednesday at 5:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1024 W. Main St., Forest City, NC 28043.
