Donald R. Ponto, 52, of 19636 Yoder St., was found dead in his home at 4:10 p.m. Monday by his son. Death apparently occurred on or about Aug. 9 The St. Joseph County Police Department said Ponto's son, Roy A. Ponto had tried to contact his father by phone for several days then went to the home Monday. There was no evidence of foul play, according to Detective Capt. Elmer Chikar. It was reported Ponto suffered a stroke three months ago. He was born on Feb 27, 1931, in South Bend and had lived here all his life. He was employed as a maintenance man at Walnut Grove. On June 9, 1956, in South Bend, he married Rosemary Beam. She survives with another son, Donald Jr. of South Bend and two grandchildren. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Private services will be at a later date. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 1201 S. Michigan St., is handling arrangements.
