Djuro "George" Lazur Vuckovich was born in Crna Goro, Montenegro - Yugoslovia. He was ordained a Priest in 1935 in Yugoslovia, where he served as a Parish Priest. While serving in WW II, he was captured and spent several years in a German prison camp where he ministered to other prisioners. On November 21, 1935, in Yugoslovia, he married Ljubica "Violet" Radulavich. They were the parents of Vera, Maria (Michael Knezevich) & Bezidar "Robert" Vuckovich. After coming to the States - they became parents of Michael Vuckovich. During his imprisonment, "Violet" was left to raise the three children. Father Vuckovich came to America in 1949. With the aid of friends and family, Violet and the three children would sail from the Port of Naples to New York - Feb 7, 1950 -arriving February 17, 1950. Father "George" served as a Priest in Lebanon, PA before coming to South Bend to serve at Saints Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox Church. He served the parish from 1955 till his passing - August 28, 1978. He is buried with "Violet" at Sacred Heart Cemetery in So. Bend, IN.
