NILES - Erzs©bbet Vesei, age 87 years, of Niles, Michigan, died at 5:15 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013, at West Woods of Niles following an extended illness. She was born on October 28, 1925, in Gyirmot, Hungary, to Bela and Brigitta (Szabo) Varga, and completed school in Hungary (the U.S. equivalent of high school graduation). She came to the United States in 1956, settling in South Bend, Indiana, for a year before moving to Niles. Elizabeth was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles, and its Altar-Rosary Society. She was a talented seamstress, and her greatest interest was caring for her family. On August 31, 1957, at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church in South Bend, she married Laszlo M. Vesei, with whom she celebrated last year the fifty-fifth anniversary of their wedding. Surviving family includes her husband, Laszlo Vesei; and their children, Brigitta Vesei of Appleton, Wisconsin, Julia (& Gabe) Vesei-Pompe of Shrub Oak, New York, Joseph C. Vesei of Niles, and Charles P. (& Erzs©bbet) Vesei of Strongsville, Ohio; and grandchildren, Sarena Pompe, Vince Vesei, Sofia Vesei, Lehel Somogy, Csaba Somogy and Hajnal Somogy. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mariska Boehm, Helen Nemeth, Karcsi Varga and Bela Varga. The Mass of Christian Burial for Erzs©bbet Vesei will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles by the Rev. David Otto of the parish. Committal rites will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. today at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles, with recitation of The Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Erzs©bbet may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , or to the American Red Cross for disaster relief.
