SOUTH BEND - Vernon A. ''Bud'' Sterchi, 68, of Shellbark Avenue, died at 12:08 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, in Mission Hospital in Mission, Texas. Mr. Sterchi retired in 1989 as a serviceman from Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) after more than 30 years employment. He was born Feb. 20, 1929, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.
On May 13, 1976, in South Bend, he married the former Nancy A. Pool, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Diane S. (Scott) Roush of Greenwood, Ind., Linda K. (Kenneth) Grimes of South Bend and Roxann J. (Jeffrey) Silvius of Carmel, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Sandra K. Straup of Houston, Texas; a son, John V. Sterchi of Chicago, Ill.; a stepson, Kenneth A. (Vicki) Straup of Palatine, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Nathan and Erin Roush, Kristin and Cortney Grimes, and Jeffrey, Kevin and Allison Silvius; and a brother, Jerry (Norma) Sterchi of LaPorte, Ind. Mr. Sterchi was a former member of Albright United Methodist Church in Mishawaka, Ind., and the Indiana Army National Guard. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. Rev. Kennard Wilson will officiate. Cremation will follow and burial will be at a later date in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 2410 N. Grape Road, Suite 5A, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
