Frederick Heinrikowski was born in Lautenberg, Westprussia, Germany. He married Otillie Bertha Werner in 1890, then both of them migrated to the USA in 1891, with two children: son Frederick, and a daughter listed as Frau.
They settled in South Bend, Indiana. Frederick hired into Studebaker, and spent his career working for them. He had to sign a contract with them, that anything he developed was their property and not his. He was credited by Studebaker for developing a flexible molding that would go around the front windshield; previous moldings were causing the windshields to break. He retired from Studebaker when retirement eligible, but returned to work with that company a few years later at their request. Frederick was Naturalized, along with his family, in 1921. He had his family name legally changed to Henry, due to persecution and discrimination against Germans resulting from World War 1. Frederick was very skilled and creative. He worked many of his spare hours at his Jigsaw, creating clocks and furniture. When supplies became scarce, he fabricated a grandfather clock out of cigar boxes he collected. He and Otillie had many children; some who did not survive their first year, and some who were stillborn. Those that survived childhood are: Hattie Otillie Nelson, Olga Augusta Correll, Herman Paul, Arthur A, Albert G., Esther Marion Shotts. He died from complications of stomach cancer.
