SOUTH BEND - Virginia M. Kromkowski, 94, of Cassopolis, MI (formerly of South Bend, IN) passed away at 1:42 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Lakeland Hospital in Niles, MI. She was born on May 3, 1917 to the late Stanley and Mary (Szczepaniak) Buzalski in South Bend, IN, where she lived her whole life, until moving to Cassopolis, MI in 2008. Along with her parents, her son, former State Representative Thomas Kromkowski and three sisters, Bernice Karnafel, Rose Grzeskiewicz and Alice Szilagyi also preceded her in death. Mrs. Kromkowski worked as a self-employed Beautician for many years. On January 31, 1938, as Virginia M. Buzalski, she married Bert "Bronco" Kromkowski in South Bend, IN. He died on February 11, 1985. Virginia is survived by two grandchildren, Julie (Michael) McSweeney of Atlanta, GA & Greg (Misha) Kromkowski of Frisco, TX; four great-grandchildren, Sean McSweeney, Tyler, Rex, and Kate Kromkowski; two nieces, Elaine Katovsich & Jeannette Rafferty; one nephew, Ron (Peggy Long) Grzeskiewicz, all of Cassopolis, MI. Virginia was a member of M.R. Falcons Nest #200, where she was a recipient of the Legion of Honor, a member of St. Stanislaus Parish, Harvest House of Holy Cross and St. Stanislaus, Grandmother's Club of St. Hedwig, and Lady Knights of Columbus. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in South Bend, IN, with Rev. Michael Mathews, C.S.C. officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Catholic Charities, 1817 Miami Street, South Bend, IN 46613.
