Joseph E. Day, age 85, of Arcadia, Indiana died February 17, 2011. He was born August 22, 1925 near Galveston, Indiana to Frank and Francis Day. They preceded him in death. Joe was a 1943 graduate of Galveston High School. He then became a cadet in the U.S. Navy during WWII where he trained as a pilot. He farmed for more than 40 years near Arcadia, IN and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cicero. He married Esther "Sally" (Newby) Day on February 7, 1953. She died September 10, 2005. Also preceding him in death in addition to his parents are his wife and brothers: Walter, Fred, Frank and Charles, sisters: Mary and Josephine. Survivors include two sons: David S. Day of St. Petersburg, Fl and Joseph E. Day, II of Chicago, IL, four daughters, Linda Day Ripple of Lexington N C, Betty Jo Plunkett of Indianapolis, Jacqueline Day Bemis of Minneapolis MN, and Christina L. Kolodziej of Granger, IN, brother: Max Day of Fresno, CA, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 A.M. with pastor Byron Fritz officiating. Burial will be at the Cicero Cemetery.
