Mishawaka-Barbara J. Schelstraete, 81, passed away on Tuesday, November 5 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Barbara was born on December 31, 1931 in South Bend to Melvin and Mary (Vahl) Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Patricia Davis and Mary Beth Middleton. On January 20, 1951 she married Joseph Schelstraete. He preceded her in death on October 31, 2005. Surviving are a daughter, Suzanne (Edward) Trojanowski of Elkhart; a son, Joseph (Debbie) Schelstraete of Mishawaka; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Doty, Amy (Eric) Norris, Kathleen (Kirk) Manning and Eric (Heidi) Schelstraete and Courtney (Andrew) Geary; nine great grandchildren, Lucas, Taylor, Nolan, Parker, Skylar, Aubrey, Ava, Grace and Mallory; and a sister, Judy (Leo) Niespodziany of Mishawaka. Barbara was a LPN for St. Joseph Care Center for 32 years before she retired in 1999. The family would like to thank Dr. Marker and his staff for all of their special care and kindness over the years. And a Thank you to the staff at the Waterford at Edison Lakes and Interim Services for all of their help Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 7 in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka.
