SOUTH BEND - Chester A. Mielcarek, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in the Hearth at Juday Creek. Chet was born April 29, 1931, in South Bend. Chet married Rita (Wroblewski); she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Martha Piers; stepfather, Frank "Jack" Piers; daughter, Nancy Cox; and son, Timothy Mielcarek. Survivors of Chet include a grandson, Matthew (Stavroula Korakis) Kalka of South Bend. Chet honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was a Civil Engineer with the State of Indiana until his retirement. Chet was a member of the American Legion Post 284. He was a drummer for several area bands and was well-liked by his fellow musicians. He also taught drum lessons for many years. Chet enjoyed making model airplanes, boats and cars. He also enjoyed boating and fishing. Chet was dedicated to his job and his family. Visitation for Chester will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Thursday, July 10, 2014, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Funeral Ceremony will be celebrated at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
