NILES - William James Antos, age 76 years, of Niles, Michigan, died peacefully at 1:41 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016, with his family gathered around his bed following a brief illness.He was born on March 10, 1940, in Endicott, New York, to Joseph and Mary (Miler) Antos. He was graduated from Union-Endicott High School, and from the Ridley Aeronautical Institute in Miami, Florida. He enlisted in the United States Army, served in the Panama Canal Zone, and was honorably discharged as a veteran of the Vietnam Era. He settled in Niles in 1968 where he founded and operated the former Best X-Ray Solutions. He has lived in Niles the rest of his life, and spent many winters in Avon Park, Florida. Bill volunteered to coach in both the Southwestern Michigan Football Clinic and Optimist Soccer. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs, and the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He passionately enjoyed fishing, and a wide variety of classic cars which included ownership of an Avanti, a ‘66 Mustang, a Corvette, and currently a Pontiac Fiero. He also enjoyed the fellowship of table games including pinochle and poker, camping with friends, and polka music. On July 3, 1963, at Fort Kobbe in the Panama Canal Zone, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Anne Marie Margetanski, with whom he celebrated last July the fifty-third anniversary of their wedding. Surviving family includes his wife, Anne Antos; and their three sons, Joseph (& Cindy) Antos of Niles, Bill (& Pam) Antos of Hilliard, Ohio, and Bob (& Ann) Antos of Angola, Indiana; grandchildren, Geoffrey Antos, Heather (& fiancé Zakk Saam) Antos, Johnny Antos, Christopher Antos, Nicky Antos, Audreyana Antos, Milena Antos, and Elijah Antos; and a sister-in-law, Lillian (Mrs. John) Antos of Flushing, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, John Antos. The funeral service for Bill Antos will be at 11:00 on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles, with Deacon Roger Gregorski of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles officiating. The service will conclude with the Veterans Flag Presentation and “Taps” by the United States Army Honor Guard.The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
