Virginia Waggoner
May 23, 1930 - Sept. 7, 2014
SOUTH BEND - Virginia (Ginny) E. Waggoner, 84, of South Bend, was welcomed into the Lord's hands on Sunday, September 7, 2014 (Grandparents Day), in Hospice House, South Bend. She was born on May 23, 1930, in South Bend, to the late Edward Earl and Rosanna (Chayie) Gervais, and was a lifelong area resident. On May 27, 1950, she married Charles L. Waggoner, who preceded her in death on June 15, 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Waggoner (Mark) Dall of Indianapolis, IN; her son, Jeffrey Alan Waggoner of South Bend; a grandson, Alexander Dall; a step-granddaughter, Emily (Matthew) Kelley of Washington, D.C.; and four step-great-grandchildren, Kyle, Gavin, Cassidy and Zoey. Preceding her in death are her brother, Harold (wife, Marceil; children, Craig, Bradley, Dale, Dean, Cheryl, Patrice, Keith, Gerald and Lori). Also preceding in death are brother, Earl Gervais (children, Earl, Janet, Ruth, Frank, Ann, Betty, Steven and Glenn), and infant sister, Marie. She is survived by a sister in South Bend, Eleanor G. (Albert F.) Tengelitsch (children, Albert E., John, Patricia and Nancy); and in Mishawaka, a brother, Raymond A. Gervais (children, Larry, Kathy, Gary, Brian and Scott). Living in South Bend are brother-in-law, Bernard (Shirley) Waggoner (children, Debra, Bruce and Dawn). All who knew Ginny would describe her as pure kindness & sweetness, living a life of thoughtfulness and welcoming as a caregiver, placing others 1st before herself. She was an accomplished ice skater (Pottawatomie Park), bowled in Niles, MI, had a Fitness Center membership, was a Polka enthusiast at American Legion Post 357, a Euchre player, and also tried tennis and snow skiing. She was an accomplished seamstress spanning prior and current generations. Her summers were spent at the U.P. & L.P. Michigan lakes, and Minnesota lakes where she fished & boated & picnicked with her vast family and friends. She enjoyed her Riley High School reunion (graduated 1948) this August 9th at St. Hedwig, where classmate attendance surpassed prior records. She was an avid Notre Dame fan and we're sure she coached them to the September 6th 31-0 victory over Michigan. We'd like to send special thanks to the following at the Hospice Center: Michele, Carol, Elizabeth, Jill, Barb, Yvonne, Stephanie, Cherie, Mickey, Betsey, Bethanne and Karen. We are consoled knowing that Virginia is now celebrating the September 8th birthday of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Donations may be made to the Hospice House in South Bend / Mishawaka. Visitation: Thursday 2:00-4:00 (3:30 Rosary) & 6:00-8:00 in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN 46628, and Friday 12:00-1:00, also in Kaniewski Funeral Home. Mass is 1:00-2:00 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 St. Rd. 933, South Bend, IN 46637. Burial (2:30) is at Highland Cemetery, 2257 Portage Ave., South Bend, IN 46624. Pallbearers: Jeff, Mark, Alex, Ray, Steve, John. Published in South Bend Tribune on Sept. 10, 2014
