SOUTH BEND - Anne Barany Monserez passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017, at the Hearth at Juday Creek in Granger, IN. Anne was born on November 18, 1926, to Andrew and Anna (Abraham) Barany of South Bend, IN, both of whom preceded her in death. In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by an infant sister, Anna; her brothers, Andrew, Ernest, Emery, and John Barany, all previously of South Bend; her sister, Mary Birder, previously of Green Bay, WI; her sisters-in-law, Joan Barany and Sue Barany; and her son-in-law, Philip M. Paligraf. On October 29, 1949, she married James H. Monserez in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of 68 years; their seven children, J. Michael Monserez of Ft. Myers, FL, Mark Andrew Monserez of Phoenix, AZ, W. Marten (Milena) Monserez of Loveland, OH, Maurice Monserez of San Francisco, CA, Mathew John (Patty) Monserez of Windemere, FL, Monte (Joni) Monserez of South Bend, and her only daughter, Mary Margaret (Meg) Paligraf of Fishers, IN. Also surviving Anne are thirteen grandchildren, Megan, MacKenzie, John Michael, Michael (Amber), Nicholas (Arielle), Madison, Allie, Marlie, Meredith, and Mathew Monserez; also, Patrick, Maurissa, and Mathew Paligraf. Anne's great-grandchildren, Hallie, Nicholas and Grace also survive.Anne graduated from the former St. Joseph Academy and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1948 from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN. Anne found great comfort in her faith and worked diligently to practice what she believed. She loved caregiving, whether it be for her parents, her siblings and their spouses, or her immediate family. She found great fulfillment in the accomplishments of her children. Anne worked diligently and proudly with her husband, Jim, to establish their family business, South Bend Hardware. Her many years of hard work and dedication to it resulted in its successful longevity. She loved nature and marveled at all God's creations. She found great joy in designing and developing the landscape of flowering trees, shrubs, bulbs, annuals, and her perennial garden at her home.Anne enjoyed entertaining, particularly large family gatherings, cooking the children's favorites, and decorating her home for each seasonal holiday. She held long-standing memberships in St. Mary's College Alumnae Association and the Christ Child Society. Visitation will be held for Anne on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Monsignor Michael Heintz at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN. A private burial ceremony will be held at a later date at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Anne may be donated to Women's Care Center, P.O.
