Mary Lisa (Walz) Swoape of Bloomington passed away peacefully in her bed on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at the age of 70. Lisa was born to Richard and Lauretta Evalyn (Dennison) Walz in South Bend, Indiana on July 14, 1952. She attended Indiana University where she studied literature. Lisa used her education to teach children her entire life. She worked as a private nanny, and a teacher at Kids Club Preschool and St. Benedict Classical Catholic School. Mary was a creative person with a passion for nature and her faith. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and writing poetry. Lisa was an avid reader, she could be found with a book by her side ready to enjoy. Above all Lisa was a mother. Her children were her world and she became another mother to all the children she touched throughout her life. Lisa is survived by her children, Mason Swoape (Syndi) of Bloomington, Myra Villella (John) of Ashland, OR and Rachel Swoape of Bloomington; six grandchildren; siblings, Hadassah (Harry) Wilkinson, Joe Walz (Anita), Trish Becker (Gary), and Victoria Walz; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Denny Walz and former husband James Swoape. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 10:00 am. With Mass conducted by Father Dennis Duvelius. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass. There will also be a celebration of life held April 1st from 1-5 PM at her residence 9882 Freeland Ln, Bloomington, IN. Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville, IN is assisting with the arrangements.
