NEW CARLISLE, Ind. - Anna D. Layman, 79, 125 Zigler St., died at 8:50 a.m. yesterday at Holy Family Hospital, LaPorte. She had been ill three years. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Canty Church with Rev. Henry Smartz officiating and burial will be in St. John Canty Cemetery. Friends may call at the residence from 7 tonight through tomorrow evening. The Rosary will be recited there at 8 p.m. tomorrow. The H.C. Amen and Son Funeral Home is in charge. Mrs. Layman was born in New Carlisle Nov. 15, 1886, and lived in the area all her life. On Nov. 20, 1905, at Rolling Prairie, she was married to Ernest Layman, who died in 1928. She was a member of St. John Canty Church, the Rosary Society, the New Carlisle unit of Mothers of World War II and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Surviving are two sons, Clement, Rolling Prairie, and Edward, Michigan City; two daughters, Mrs. Louis Mrozinski, Rolling Prairie, and Cecelia Kinne, New Carlisle; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mayme Modjeska and Mrs. Samuel Moore, both of Manhattan Beach, Calif. A son, Harold, was killed in service in 1945.
