Shirley M. Mikos, 79, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 5:20 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 in her home, following an illness. She was born on June 27, 1939 to the late John, Sr. and Effie (Oliver) Risner in Rensselaer, IN and was a lifelong South Bend resident. Along with her parents; she was also preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Risner. Shirley was the co-owner of Partners in Opportunities in South Bend, IN for 16 years. Prior to that, she worked as a Beautician and owner of the Golden Door Beauty Salon in South Bend, IN, where she was one of the first salons in this area to have a tanning bed. Shirley is survived by her three children, Georgina Oliver of South Bend, IN; Jerid Wireman of South Bend, IN; Denise Lewallen of South Bend, IN; five grandchildren, Courtney, Danny(Brianna), LeeAnn, Joshua(Natalie), Brittney; six great grandchildren, David, Karmya, Alanna, Alayna, Tessa, Jasleen Grace; two sisters, Kathleen Risner and Joann (Jack) Barnett, both of Medaryville, IN; one brother, Johnny, Jr. (Sheila) Risner of Wheatfield, IN; and a sister-in-law, Freda Risner of Wheatfield, IN. Shirley enjoyed traveling, especially going to Florida. She loved feeding her birds, especially Cardinals. Shirley loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was an avid Notre Dame Football Fan; and had a great sense of humor. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, followed by visitation until 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Medaryville, IN at a later date.
