Mary Ann Lako, 79, of Fairington Apartments, died at 3:20 p.m. on Friday, July 7, in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. She was born on April 1, 1921, in Hurley, Wis., to Stephen and Agnes Rajkovich. In 1939 she graduated from Murphy High School, located in Hurley. On Aug. 29, 1942, in St. Charles, Mo., as Mary Rajkovich, she married Frank Lako, Sr., who died on Dec. 1, 1990. Mary was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Paul Lako, who died on March 21, 1967; and by a brother and sister. Mrs. Lako was employed by Ball Band in Mishawaka, Ind., for 15 years. She also worked at Osteopathic Hospital in Mishawaka and Quality Inn of South Bend, Ind. She was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church, the St. Ann Society, Harvest House, the Sacred Heart & Rosary Society, and the DFV German Club Ladies Auxiliary. She also participated in the Golden Gang Bowling League, and was a volunteer for Real Services for five years. She is survived by five daughters, Betty Ann (Tom) Buti of Niles, Mich., Mary C. (Bob) Roser of Wabash, Ind., Veronica (Bill) Rose, Linda (Ron) Brown and Christine (Mike) Dobrzykowski, all of South Bend; three sons, Michael Lako of Mishawaka, Frank Lako, Jr., and Steve Lako, both of South Bend; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Agnes (Emil) Ciatl of Medford, Ore., Margie Raykovic of Hurley, Wis., Katie Ducomen of Tomahawk, Wis., and Helen Miller of Las Vegas, Nev.; and by two brothers, Frank (Sandy) Rajkovich of Las Vegas, Nev., and Steve (Adelle) Rajkovich of Mundeline, Ill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the ZAHORAN FUNERAL HOME, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. by the Harvest House, the St. Ann Society, and the Sacred Heart & Rosary Society.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Our Lady of Hungary Church Repair Fund.
