Dr. Joseph A. Toth, 87, residing in South Bend, passed away peacefully at 7:10 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2007 in Memorial Hospital of South Bend surrounded by his loving family.He was born November 2, 1919 in South Bend to Joseph R. & Anna (Pretlack) Toth, and has been a lifelong resident of this community. On January 23, 1943 in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Helen T. Kobek. Together, they have enjoyed nearly 58 years of marriage. He enlisted with the United States Army February 17, 1942 and was stationed at Dale Mabry Field in Tallahassee, FL. He was honorably discharged September 16, 1944 as a Staff Sergeant. He received his BA. at St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, IN, and his degree in Dentistry from Loyola University in Chicago.Dr. Toth served as a Dentist in South Bend for nearly forty-seven years. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Matthew, Serra Club, Knights of Columbus Council #5521, South Bend Elks Lodge #235, South Bend Moose Lodge, and the American Dental Association. He is survived by his loving wife Helen, five daughters, Helen (Bill) Moore of Columbus, OH, Karen (Mark) Evans of Portland, OR, Terry T. (David) Carroll of South Bend, Ann (Charles) Kesmodel of Noblesville, IN, and Dr. Paul (Michael) Toth-Russell of South Bend, two sons, John (Carol) Toth of Indianapolis, and Greg Toth of South Bend. Also surviving are nineteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A sister, Terry (Stanley) Jozwiak of South Bend survives Joe as well. A son, Joseph Michael Toth on September 19, 2006, preceded him in death. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, at the Cathedral of St. Matthew; 1701 Miami St., South Bend. Rev. Michael Heintz will officiate. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend where a parish rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Dr. Joseph A. Toth may be offered to the Bishop Crowley Educational Fund of St. Matthews, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN 46613 or to The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
