Virginia G. VanOoteghem, 86, formerly of North Edison Avenue, passed away after an illness at St. Paul's Nursing Center. She had resided at St. Paul's Retirement Community since June 1997. She was born in St. Joseph County to Martin and Mary (Napruszewska) Superczynski, and had lived in the South Bend area all of her life. In 1977 she retired from Sobenite, Inc., after many years of service. On March 23, 1954, she married Raymond VanOoteghem, who preceded her in death on December 15, 1989. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Henrietta Kotolinski; and a brother, Dennis Superczynski. She is survived by a brother, Al Superczynski of South Bend. She is also survived by two sons, David L. Flowers (Ginger) of South Bend and Gerald J. Kwiatkowski of Mishawaka. Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Charlotte (VanOoteghem) Sikes, and a stepson, Russell (Cathy) VanOoteghem, both of Miami, Florida; four grandchildren, Joseph L. Flowers of Chicago, Lisa J. Flowers of South Bend, and Donald Kwiatkowski and Jeneane (Terry) Arter of Mishawaka; one great grandchild; four step-grandchildren and two great-step-grandchildren. Virginia was a member of Holy Family Church, South Bend, and the Golden Cluster of St. Hedwig Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2002, in Holy Family Church. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, were a parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or St. Paul's Retirement Community. Kaniewski Funeral Home, Inc., 3545 N. Bendix Drive.

Editor: She originally married Walter J. Kwiatkowski on Nov. 11, 1939. Then as Virginia G. Kwaitowski she married Raymong VanOooteghem in 1954.
