Richard E. Fair (Dick, Hickory)
October 29, 1936- June 9, 2009
South Bend - Richard E. Fair 72 passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 9, 2009 at 4:16 a.m. at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Richard was born on October 29, 1936 in Bronson, Michigan to the late Ellsworth and Jeanette Fair ( Ludwick). He was also preceded in death by his only brother Max. On June 22, 1957 he married Joann (Jankowski). She survives along with their only child Brenda Bucher (Fair) and her husband Jeff Bucher along with their five lovely and amazing grandchildren that we were blessed with: Jeffrey Jr., Nicholas, Heidi, Jacob, and Zachary. He is also survived by his sister Rose Marie (Fair) Hank Vrielynck.Richard worked for Kuert concrete for almost 42 years and drove his Notre Dame Football cement truck very proudly. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 364. Richard was a member of the Holy Family Ushers Club and was very involved and dedicated to Holy family and all their festivals including Vegas Night. Richard was also a great fan of Notre Dame Football for many years leading him to work as an Usher for Notre Dame home football games for many years. He also enjoyed bowling on a team for many years with his friends from Kuert Concrete. Richards passion was his yard that he enjoyed working in everyday to make sure it was perfect. His second passion was his CB Radio where he was known as Hickory or old Hickory to all his friends that he talked to on it. He would sit for hours at a time chatting with friends on the CB to find out what was going on with everyone. He was a NASCAR fan, he loved to sit at his computer and play his Las Vegas style slot machine games, watch Notre Dame, and listen to country music. The biggest joy in Richards life was getting to spend as much time as he could with his five grandchildren. He took any free time he could to spoil them, help them, talk with them, and just be around them. He wanted them to have all the love he could give or they could ever want and everything he could do for them he did. He was the most loving and Best Husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Brother that anyone could ever ask for. This is one special man that will truly be missed. His priority was to make sure his family was loved and taken care of and at that he succeeded. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2009 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.
