Robert Ertman Ryll, 92, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022. Robert was born June 26, 1930 in South Bend to the late Ertman and Helen (Petzke) Ryll. On July 12, 1952 Robert married the love of his life, Florence (Popielski) Ryll. Robert is preceded in death by his brother, Paul (Norma) Ryll. Left to cherish the memory of Robert is his loving wife of 70 years, Florence (Popielski) Ryll; children, Donald R. (Michele) Ryll, David E. (Deborah) Ryll, and Cynthia A. (Paul) Floridia; grandchildren, Jessica (Brandon) Ottow, Kenneth M Ryll; sister, Arlene (Veryl) Stamm; great-grandson, Brody Ottow and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great great grandchildren. Robert graduated from Riley High School in 1949, he then honorably served in the United States Navy for 4 years. Robert retired from the South Bend Post Office with 31 years of service for his community. He worked at Studebaker for a period time along with working at the Notre Dame Ticket Office, as well as Ushering for Notre Dame games for 32 years with the last six being in the press box. Florence and Bob were members of Holy Family Parish and the American Legion #357. Bob enjoyed camping, line dancing, and square dancing with his wife. He enjoyed building model planes since he was little, he even got to ride in the plane with Dr. Dieter. Bob’s biggest thrill was flying off a carrier ship while in the service. Bob enjoyed bowling and traveling with his wife, Florence. They spent winters in Ocala, Florida and Yuma, Arizona as snow birds. Visitation for Robert will be Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 10:30 am to 11:00 am, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Road South Bend, IN 46619 with a Mass of Christian burial to take place at 11:00am. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
