John J. Parakowski March 5, 1946 - May 5, 2011
John J. Parakowski, 65, residing in South Bend, passed away at 8:25 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He was born March 5, 1946 in Germany, a son of Bronislaw & Jadwiga (Wolinski) Parakowski, and moved from Germany to South Bend with his family when he was 5 years old.
On November 26, 1976 at the Cathedral of St. Matthew, South Bend, John was united in marriage to Rebecca "Becky" Kroll who survives. Also surviving is his mother, Jadwiga Parakowski of South Bend; three sisters, Ursula (George) Zeltner of Granger, Barbara (Kit) Johnson of Mishawaka, Christine (Randy) Borror of South Bend; two brothers, Henry (Leslie) Parakowski of Granger and Leo Parakowski of South Bend. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Walter Kroll of South Bend and Jensen Beach, FL and Frederick (Mari) Kroll of St. Mary's, GA; sisters-in-law, Geri Kroll and Gail Kroll, both of South Bend; several nieces and nephews; a very special nephew and best buddy, Walter Kroll of South Bend; and a great-nephew, Noah Kroll of Florida. Mr. Parakowski retired after 32 years as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in South Bend. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, and was a member of American Legion Pulaski Post #357. John really enjoyed sports, especially football, baseball and golf.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Wednesday, May 11, at the Cathedral of St. Matthew. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 5:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend.
