BUCHANAN - Dorothy H. Litty Wisniewski, age 96 years, of Main Street, Buchanan, Michigan, died at 9:55 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009, with her daughters at her side in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana, following a brief illness. She was born on December 15, 1912, in Detroit, Michigan, to Edward and Eva (Ryan) Rose. She graduated from high school in Ohio and had lived in this area since 1935. She was employed for 24 years at Bendix Automotive, retiring in 1975. Dorothy enjoyed reading mysteries and caring for her dogs. She always looked forward to Saturday nights, for the public television broadcasts of Gospel music and the old Lawrence Welk shows. On June 14, 1935, she was married to Joseph Litty, who preceded her in death on February 4, 1949. On August 9, 1952, in Detroit, she married Arthur Wisniewski, who preceded her in death on May 9, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jean H. "Jeanie" Litty on October 1, 2006; her grandson, Eric Balch on September 16, 1998; and by a sister, Mary Cass; and brothers, Robert Rose and Ralph Rose. Surviving family includes Dorothy's children, Joan (Fred) Hubele of Niles, Michigan, Nancy (Steffen) Baich of Buchanan and James Litty of Crown Point, Indiana; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; stepsons, Mark (Elaine) Lemon and Archie Cherry; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Mrs. Robert) Rose of Tonopah, Nevada; many nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Dorothy H. Litty Wisniewski will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with Chaplain Russell L. Simonson of Forgotten Man Ministries officiating. The family will gather privately for committal services at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Dorothy may be made to Pet Refuge.
