Mary was born and baptized on 19 August 1851 as Marie Hermine Beaudoin to Francois Xavier Baudoin and Marie Archambault in St-Roch-de-l'Achigan, L'Assomption, Quebec, Canada. She was the oldest of five children. She moved with her family from Quebec to South Bend, Indiana about 1855 where they would eventually become parishioners in Saint Joseph parish. Mary married William Benedict Lafontaine, the brother of Julia Lafontaine, the first wife of Louis Etier Hickey, on 8 June 1867. The newspaper report of her working named her Perminda Bandion. William and Mary had three children: William Joseph ((1868 - ), Frederick (1870-1918), and Mary Alice (1873- ). Mary's husband William died on 13 May 1873 at St Joseph Farm, Notre Dame, St Joseph, Indiana. The cause of death was heart disease. Mary married Louis Etier Hickey, whose wife Julia Lafontaine had died in 1874, on 10 January 1876 at St. Joseph parish in South Bend. Her marriage to Louis was, thus, to the former husband of her deceased sister-in-law, Julia Lafontaine. Louis and Mary had two child: Mary Julia (b.1876), who died in infancy; and Elmer Joseph (1888-1947).
Mary died at her home at 505 E Corby St, South Bend, on 7 Feb 1914. She was buried with her second husband, Louis Etier Hickey, in Section C, Plot 170 of Cedar Grove Cemetery.
