Eugene M. Berndt, 69, of 1710 Swygart, died at 9:20 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph Medical Center after a two year illness. He was self-employed. He was born on Dec. 23, 1912, in South Bend and had lived here all his life. On Jan 2, 1932, in South Bend, he married Viola Kulchar. She survives with two daughters; Mrs. Colette Woolley of South Bend and Mrs. Janice Manges of Peru, Indiana; a son Phillip of South Bend; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Irene Smith of South Bend; and a brother, Raymond of Florida. Services will be a t 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Rev. Thomas Lallak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 1201 S. Michigan where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
