SOUTH BEND - Ellen Sophie Faulhaber, 90, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 9:20 p.m. in Sanctuary at Holy Cross, South Bend. Ellen was born on November 8, 1918, in Chicago, IL, to the late Frank and Mary M. (Schwarz) Tietz. On October 3, 1942 in Chicago, IL, she married Edward J. Faulhaber. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1995. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Frank Tietz. Ellen is survived by her five children, Carol Faulhaber of Mill Valley, CA, Diane (Jim) Tubbs of Raleigh, NC, Linda (Ron) Nalepinski of South Bend, Edward D. Faulhaber of South Bend and Shirley (Dave) Koloszar of South Bend; brother, Robert Tietz of Chicago, IL; ten grandchildren, Jesse (Erin) Beisler, Cori (Bob) Nevruz, Ryan (Robin) Tubbs, Amy (Nick) Drost, Angela Hastings, Allison DeWald, Erica Faulhaber, Joseph Koloszar, Kristin Koloszar, Erin (Steven) Kondratko, and Kelli Koloszar; and by four great-grandchildren, Coltrane and Ivan Nevruz, Jake Beisler and Julien Tubbs. Ellen graduated from Mundelein College, Chicago, IL, and worked as a secretary for Burroughs in Chicago and was a substitute teacher in the South Bend area for many years. She was a member of the Garden Club, Lydick Card Club, and Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club and was a former parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir. Ellen is a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Visitation will also be from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. For those who are unable to attend the funeral liturgy, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
