Robert “Bob” Mammolenti, 75, of Mishawaka, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015. Bob leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Jean (Canfield) Mammolenti; his four sons: Bart (Theresa) Mammolenti and their children, Elizabeth, Emily, Robert and Dennis; Chris (Rachelle) Mammolenti and their children, Joey and Bobbie; Dominic (Jana) Mammolenti and their children, Kennedy and Dominic; and Matthew (Katie) Mammolenti and their children, Milliana, Sullivan and Lidia. Bob also leaves behind sisters and brothers, Marian DeKeizer, Roy (Pat) Mammolenti, Pete (Pat) Mammolenti, Milio (Carole) Mammolenti, Jim (Shirley) Mammolenti and Joe (Carol) Mammolenti; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Mammolenti. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Pietro and Theresa (Martino) Mammolenti, a brother, Sam Mammolenti; a sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Gerald Marsh, as well as a brother-in-law, Camiel DeKeizer. Bob was born in Mishawaka on April 6, 1939. His parents were Pietro and Theresa Mammolenti who were both born in Calabria, Italy. Bob graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1957 and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from Indiana State University.
Bob met Jean Canfield at Mishawaka High School. They were married on September 1, 1962 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka where they remained parishioners. Bob served in the US Marine Corps Reserves. He then began his high school teaching career at Mishawaka High School and finished his 35 year career at Riley High School in South Bend. He retired early to enjoy time with his beloved family and friends and to work in his passion of wine making. Bob and Jean enjoyed visiting family in Southern Italy, spending winters visiting family and friends in Florida, and family time during the annual Mammolenti week. Bob will remembered most by his: loving demeanor, ability to make friends instantly, be present when anyone needed help, talking about his wonderful grandchildren, love of Italian cooking, creative craftsmanship, witty and unique sense of humor, practical jokes, his annual swimming backflip (while in his 70’s), and most importantly, the love he had for his wife and family. Friends may spend time with Bob’s family from 4 - 8 pm on Monday, March 30, in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday, March 31, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka. Officiating will be Rev. Terry Fisher, Rev. Paul Doyle, CSC, and Rev. James Bracke, CSC. Cremation will follow. Contributions in Bob’s memory are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
