SOUTH BEND - Rose Mary (Fini) Ziolkowski, 88, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away at 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2010, in the Sunrise Assisted Living Center, St. Louis, MO. She spent much of the past two years in St. Louis with immediate family nearby. Mrs. Ziolkowski was born on December 7, 1921, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Johanna (Schueller) Guentert. On September 22, 1948, in South Bend, she married Edmund T. Ziolkowski, who preceded her in death on December 21, 2002. Nine brothers and sisters also preceded Rose Mary in death. Mrs. Ziolkowski is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Michelle Ziolkowski of St. Louis, MO; granddaughter, Carrie Ziolkowski of St. Louis, MO; grandson, David Ziolkowski of St. Louis, MO; three great-grandchildren, Harper, Jackson and Arlo; a sister, Cecelia Lowman of South Bend; and a brother, Frank Guentert of Sterling, IL. Mrs. Ziolkowski was employed with St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, her entire career as a nurse, and retired in 1986 as Director of Nursing Services. She was a faithful member of Little Flower Catholic Church and a member of the Alumni Association of Holy Cross School of Nursing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010, at Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood, South Bend. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 4th, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, and from 9-10 a.m. on Friday in Little Flower Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Rose Mary Ziolkowski may be made to the St. Joseph High School New Building Fund, 1441 N. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46617. Construction of the new school is planned for the original St. Joseph Regional Medical Center site where Rose Mary spent her career caring for others.
