Karol Kay Pasierbowicz, 84, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:18 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. She was born on February 22, 1936 to the late James and Catherine Mary Gwiezdewski Kerns in Seattle, WA, and has lived in South Bend for the last 38 years. She was preceded in death by her parents. Karol retired from an Alzheimer’s facility where she worked as an Activities Director. Prior to that she worked at St. Mary’s College and Healthwin Hospital (now Healthwin Specialized Care Facility.) On January 6, 1968, as Karol Kay Kerns, she married the love of her life, Marion Robert Pasierbowicz in Charlotte, NC, after they had met on a ski trip. Karol is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Marion Robert Pasierbowicz; children, John Robert (Julia) Pasierbowicz; Christine Pasierbowicz (Brent) Gann; Jacquelyn Kay (Todd) Grauel; grandchildren, Gracen, Emma, Evan, and Owen Gann; Liam, Seth, and Cullen Grauel; and her brothers, James (Carol) Kerns; Donald (Judy) Kerns; and Michael (Mary) Kerns. Karol was a member of Christ the King Parish, where she was an active and contributing member. She was also a member of the Serra Club and Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Karol enjoyed cooking and loved animals, especially Dobermans. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2020 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 S.R. 933 North, South Bend, IN 46637.
