SOUTH BEND - Norbert A. Banaszak, 83, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Wednesday, January 27th, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born on October 3, 1932, in South Bend, to the late Corbit and Gladys Banaszak. He was lifetime resident of the Michiana area and retired from Bendix Corp. after many years of service as a laborer. On November 7, 1953, in South Bend, he married Phyllis N. Hamann, who preceded him in death on October 4, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bob, John, Ray and Freddy. Norbert is survived by a daughter, Sandy S. Nowaczewski of South Bend; a son, Thomas L. (Janice) Emerick of Mishawaka; a sister, JoAnn; a brother, Fred Banaszak of South Bend; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He enjoyed gardening, watching Notre Dame football, building and doing electrical work. Norbert will be dearly missed by his loving family and numerous friends he made through his life journey. His wishes were to be cremated and his loving family honored his wishes. Burial will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at a later date. The family requests all memorial contributions be made to the charity of their choice .
