Robert A. “Bob” Plasschaert, 96, of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2021 at his home. Bob was born on March 5, 1925 to his parents Raymond and Orienda (Hendryx) Plasschaert in Mishawaka, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Margaret Prast. Bob graduated from Mishawaka High School. He retired in December 1988 from Eslinger Home Furnishing Store in Mishawaka, IN, where he worked as a salesman for many years. Prior to that, he worked as a salesman at Radio & Furniture Mart also in South Bend. Wherever he worked, Bob had a following of many loyal customers whom he helped over the years. He served in World War II with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and was awarded 10 Battle Stars. Later, he was a member of the American Legion Post #50 In South Bend and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #360 in Mishawaka, where he was a life member and past Vice Commander. On March 15, 1958, he married Charlene T. Leffert in South Bend, IN. Together, they raised three wonderful children, worked with the Boy Scouts, organized very successful fund-raising events for church and school, and raised beautiful gardens. Bob was a great dancer starting in his Navy years. He and Charlene enjoyed a local dance club for many years and were always a welcomed sight on any dance floor. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Charlene; one daughter, Roberta L. (Richard) Lang of Austin, TX; two sons, William A. (Lauren) Plasschaert of Roselle, IL; Thomas M. (Talli) Plasschaert of McCormick, SC. He was the much loved Grandpa of 9 grandchildren; and Great Grandpa to ten great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. here will be no visitation or services. Cremation has taken place.
