SOUTH BEND, IN - Sandy Douglas-Ferro passed away peacefully in Orlando, Florida on August 13. She was born in South Bend, Indiana and also resided in Greenwood, Indiana before she moved to Orlando in 1993. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kissimmee, Florida and was married to the late Philip Ferro. Sandy had a strong faith in the Catholic religion and a fondness for angels. She loved children, spending time with her family, going to the movies, volunteering, and traveling. She was friendly to all she met and could quickly strike up a conversation with any stranger. Her career started in the Classified department in the South Bend Tribune. Sandy and her husband owned and operated an ice cream parlor and she also worked for The Walt Disney Company as a trainer in retail until her retirement. Sandy was the oldest of nine children, and she had a positive attitude towards life and never took herself too seriously. She is survived by: son, Philip Ferro; daughter, Kris Ferro-Manes and her husband Victor and their two children, Nick and Nathan; son, Mark Ferro and his wife Veronika and their three children, Sophie, Zoe, and Gabriella; daughter, Lisa Ferro-Heck and her children, Daniel and his wife Lisa and her daughter, Danielle and her sons, Stephen and Jason; and Sandy's great-grandsons, Craig and Atlas. Sandy also is survived by her sisters, Cathy Barkman, Marian Hammontree, and Pam Green; and her brothers, Dean Douglas and Mike Douglas. Deceased relatives include her parents, Stephen and Helen Douglas; her brothers, Dean Douglas, Steve Douglas, and Stephen Dean Douglas; and her sister, Joey Douglas. Visitation will be held at Kaniewski Funeral Home in South Bend on Sunday, August 19 from 3-7 PM, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 3:45 PM. A Mass will take place at St. Pius Church on Monday, August 20 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Give Kids the World, or Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Published in South Bend Tribune on Aug. 16, 2018
