Robert R. Fisher, residing in South Bend, died in his home on Sunday, April 6, 2008, surrounded by his family.He was born May 19, 1924 in Chicago, IL to John Charles & Helen (Owen) Fisher, and has lived in South Bend most of his life. On February 8, 1947 in Saint Monica's Church, Mishawaka, he was united in marriage to Marjorie A. Gerard. They have enjoyed sixty-one years of marriage. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and after the war worked for the Bendix Corporation in South Bend until his retirement in 1988. He is survived by his wife Marjorie, and their three children, Terry A. Fisher, pastor of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Mishawaka, Judy A. (Edward) Runnion Fisher, of Mishawaka, a teacher at Saint Thomas Catholic School in Elkhart, and Craig A. (Lorraine) Fisher of South Bend employed with Master Metal Engineering in South Bend. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Margaret (John) Hoeft of Indianapolis, Sarah Fisher and Stephanie Fisher both of South Bend, and two great-grandchildren, J.J. Hoeft and Madison Devine. Three brothers, Jack Fisher of Ft. Myers, FL, Harry (Barbara) Fisher of Richardson, TX, and Frank (Rhea) Fisher of Indianapolis, IN, survive Robert as well. His parents preceded him in death. Mr. Fisher was a member of the Cathedral of St. Matthew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, all donations may be offered to the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637, or to the Bishop Crowley Fund, c/o the Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN 46613.
