[N28166] LAKESIDE - Julius Smulkstys, 79, of Lakeside, died Monday afternoon, April 12, 2010, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph. Julius was born May 27, 1930 in Kaunas, Lithuania, to Liudvikas and Julja (Sumnauskas) Smulkstys. He moved to the United States in 1949 and married Isabel Juodakis. He was a Professor of Political Science at Indiana University Fort Wayne and later served as the Dean of Arts and Sciences. Survivors include his wife, Isabel; daughter, Inga Smulkstys and her husband, Christopher Klose, of Washington, D.C.; a son, Linas Smulkstys and his wife, Katie Smulkstys, of Chicago; grandchildren Noah and Lina Klose; and his brother, Liudas Smulkstys of Lemont, Ill. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Pobocik Funeral Home, Three Oaks, Michigan is serving the family.
