LAKEVILLE - John V. Gushwa, 85 years old, passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at his home. Mr. Gushwa was born on July 19, 1930 in South Bend to the late John J. and Nora (Curtis) Gushwa. He has remained a lifelong area resident. On January 8, 1955 in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Jeannette M. Zehnpfennig.Along with his loving wife, Jeannette, of 61 years, he is also survived by his two children, Helen (Michael) Ohara of South Bend and David Gushwa of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Angie) Wright, Wendy Wright-Franko, Johnell Wright and Anthony (Michelle) Wright; and nine great-grandchildren, Alexis, Taylor, Aaron, Melachi, Danitza, Lucy, Evan, Maddox, and Anthony Jr. John was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn E. Gushwa, on December 7, 1977; son, John J. Gushwa, on November 15, 1981; and two sisters, Helen and Jean. Mr. Gushwa was a lifelong tool and die maker. He worked for South Bend Tool and Die and retired from Adams Engineering where he was an inspector for the past few years of employment. Mr. Gushwa proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 63568 U.S. 31 South, Lakeville, IN. Military graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:30-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12th, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend where the Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of John V. Gushwa may be donated to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 62568 U.S. 31 South, Lakeville, IN 46536; or to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
