Dr. Jeffrey I. Byrns, D.C., 64, of Butler died early Wednesday morning at Butler Memorial Hospital. He was born in Greensburg, Oct. 22, 1946, a son the late John and Amelia Eberley Byrns. A 1964 graduate of Jeannette High School, he had been an active athlete while in school. He was a member of their varsity football team that won the Foothills Conference championship, the track team and he played American Legion Baseball. He attended the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and was a 1969 graduate of the Lincoln College of Chiropractic in Indianapolis, Ind., where he was a member of Sigma Phi Kappa fraternity. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he had served during the Vietnam War. Dr. Byrns was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church in Butler and the VFW Post in Greensburg. He was an avid golfer and a member at Aubrey's Golf Course. Surviving are his wife, Margo Kolecki Byrns, who he married June 11, 1971, at the Sacred Heart Church in Jeannette; three children, Dr. Kimberly Ann Dobson, D.C., and her husband, Jason, Amanda L. Galvan and her husband, Ken, and Jeffrey D. Byrns, all of Butler; four grandchildren, Jake and Declan Dobson and Tyler and Mia Galvan; and his mother-in-law, Rosa Kolecki of Butler.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dr. John Byrns and Dr. James Byrns. BYRNS - Friends of Dr. Jeffrey I. Byrns, D.C., who died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, will be received at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Paul Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Following cremation, private inurnment will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military honors will be provided by the Honor Guard of VFW Post 249 of Butler and American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora at the church following the Mass. The family requests that memorial donations may be sent to Butler Catholic School, 515 E. Locust St., Butler, PA 16001.
