SOUTH BEND - John H. Riffle Sr., 70, of Gulfport, Fla., formerly of South Bend, died Dec. 24 in Northside Hospital, Gulfport, after an illness. Mr. Riffle was born Aug. 26, 1923, in South Bend and lived in South Bend until moving to Florida in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Gracealee ``Lee'' (Hubbard) Riffle of Gulfport; four daughters, Barbara J. Smudzinski, Janelle Graczyk and Carol A. Toth, all of South Bend, and Sue K. Barnard of Mesa, Ariz.; four sons, John Riffle Jr. of Akron, Dennis J. Riffle and Daniel A. Enfield, both of South Bend, and David L. Enfield of Canada; 22 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Esther Ludlow of Michigan; and three brothers, Donald and Jerry, both of Niles, and Gus of Indiana. He was a veteran of World War II and member of the American Legion. Graveside services and burial were today in Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. Services were Dec. 31 in Gulfport (Fla.) Memorial Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place. South Bend Tribune 1/11/1994
