SOUTH BEND - Evelyn D. Nowicki, 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, in the Sanctuary at Holy Cross. Evelyn was born October 8, 1927, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Sophie (Jakubowicz) Lovas. On July 3, 1948, in South Bend, Evelyn married her loving husband of 66 years, Stanley M. Nowicki. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Erwin J. Lovas, and sisters, Lucyann Lovas and Theresa Sieradzki. Survivors of Evelyn include her sister, Joan Carrico of Mishawaka; daughter, Linda M. (Ben) Karasiak of Granger; granddaughters, Shera (Jamie) Dolph of Michigan City, Kacie (Gabriel) Razo of Chicago, and Karie (Miguel) Peralta of Toledo; and great-grandchildren, Daelyn J. Dolph and Skyler J. Razo. Evelyn retired from Sears & Roebuck in 1986 after 30 years of service. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Evelyn was a true Elvis fan. She enjoyed traveling to Graceland and following the Elvis impersonators in the area. Evelyn was known to be a sweet and funny woman with a generous heart. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, loyal sister and aunt, and caring grandmother and great-grandmother. Evelyn will be greatly missed, but her loved ones take comfort in knowing she is with the love of her life, Stanley, and God in heaven. Her family would like to thank the staff of the Sanctuary at Holy Cross for their support and care over the five years Evelyn resided there. Visitation for Evelyn will be 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, August 4, 2017, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., with a Rosary to be prayed at 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday, August 5, 2017, in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, with an hour visitation prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
