Jan. 12, 1950 - Sept. 30, 2011
SOUTH BEND - Mary Ann Galvas, 61, passed away comfortably in her home after an 11-month battle with stage IV brain cancer. This wonderful, strong and bright spirit will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, James Galvas; daughter, Lora (Richard, Jr.) Williams; granddaughters, Jade and Paige Williams; a son; sister, Barbara (James) Ham of Fort Wayne; niece, Julie Dickson of Indianapolis; nephew, James (Jill) Ham Jr. of Fort Wayne; and her mother, Harriet Piatkowski. Her father, William Piatkowski, preceded her in death in 1995. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grammy. She spent her free time vacationing with her husband and spoiling her granddaughters. She loved spending time at their lake trailer. She enjoyed country music. She loved going dancing with her husband when a local band, Borderline, was playing. She graduated valedictorian from Washington High School in 1968. She lived most of her life in South Bend. Mary Ann worked in Washington, DC, for the general services administration where her mortgage career began. She had a career in the mortgage business for 30 years and worked for several companies. Her last place of employment was INOVA Federal Credit Union as a mortgage loan officer. She spent many hours and enjoyed helping people obtain their dream of buying a home. The family would like to thank all the staff and doctors at Memorial Hospital of South Bend and Central Dupage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. Also, many thanks to Dr. Farhat and Dr. Tran and all the staff at Michiana Hematology Oncology. Thanks to the University of Chicago, Dr. Nicholas and his staff.
