Wojciech Cukrowicz was born in Witaszyce, Poland, Germany. He married Antonina Rauchut in 1877. The family departed from Hamburg, Germany on 25 February and arrived in the United States on 14 March 1881 via Liverpool, England. Their residence was given as Ceswica, Preußen on the passenger list. Preußen is the German word for Prussia. Poland was a part of Prussia at the time. Wojciech later changed his name to Adalbert. Obituary: The South Bend Tribune, 12 April 1918, section 1, page 5. Adalbert Cukrowicz, aged 65, died at his home, 1203 West Dunham Street, at 1:10 Wednesday morning. His death resulted from asthma. He was born in Poland but came to this city 34 years ago. He is survived by a widow, eight sons: Frank, Landislaus, Marcelli, Leonard, John, Stanley, Harry and Nicholis, and by two daughters, Clara and Antonia. The funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m., at St. Casimir's church. Burial will be in the St. Joseph's cemetery.
