Betty Jane Durkin
August 16, 1920 - May 31, 2012

Betty Jane Durkin, 91, of South Bend died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 in Inwood Hills Estates, South Bend. Mrs. Durkin was born August 16, 1920 in South Bend to the late Josephine E. (Van Holsbeke) and Leo S. Zgodzinski and was a lifetime area resident. On December 29, 1943 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, South Bend, as Betty Jane Zgodzinski she married Joseph P. Durkin who preceded her in death September 25, 2004. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Francis Zgodzinski. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen D. Cypher (James) of Linden, MI; sons, Michael J. Durkin (Diane) of Fenton, MI and David P. Durkin (Christine) of South Bend; eight grandchildren, Christina Cypher, Deborah Rummel, Matthew Durkin, Bethany Barnes, Jennifer Hamby, Kristen Durkin, Gregory Krawick, Brian Krawick, and Daniel Krawick; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorathea Felder. Mrs. Durkin was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Her family was the very focus of her entire life. They meant everything to her and will miss her tremendously. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2nd in St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. Leonard Chrobot officiating. Committal services and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call today, June 1st from 4 until 7 p.m. in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. where a parish rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 1315 Director's Roe, Suite 200, Ft. Wayne, IN, 46808.
