Nepomucena Kosmatka, 22, and Jacob Hechlinski, 27, married Oct. 27, 1871 in Panigrodz, Poznan, Poland. They came to the United States circa 1868, first to New York state where three of their children were born, Michael in 1872, Magdalena in 1873, and Frank in 1875. By 1877, the family was living on a farm in Olive Township, St Joseph County, Indiana. According to the interment records of St. Hedwig Catholic Church in nearby South Bend, Jacob died April 19, 1877 and was interred in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, Indiana. Their son John was born later that same year.
On Nov. 24, 1879, Nepomucena Hechlinkska, daughter of Lucas Kosmatka, married John Banicki, son of John Banicki, at St. Hedwig Catholic Church. According to the interment records of St. Hedwig, John Banicki died several months later, on May 10, 1880, at the age of 28. In the 1880 census, Nepomucena ("Mary Bennet"), widow, is listed in Olive Township with her four children from her first marriage. John and Nepomucena Banicki's twin boys, Jacob and John, were born in August that year.
On Feb. 7, 1881, Nepomucena Banicki, daughter of Lucas Kosmatka, married Valentine, aka Francis, Julkowski at St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Their children included Helen, Victoria, Ida, and Wladyslawa/Lottie. According to the date of death in the probate of his will, Valentine died May 19, 1892. His gravesite has not been located.
On March 1, 1897 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, Nepomucena Julkowski, daughter of Lucas Kosmatka, married Lawrence Mackowski, a widower, farmer, and son of Paul Mackowski. In the 1900 census of Olive Township, Lawrence is listed as born Sep 1842 in Poland and his wife "Mary" is listed as born May 1855 in Poland. Their household included son Michael from her first marriage; daughters, Victoria and Ida, from her second marriage; and three sons from Lawrence's previous marriage to Mary Balcer.
According to the interment records of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, Nepomucena Mackowski died Nov 9, 1904, and two days later was interred in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The location of her gravesite within the cemetery has not been found. The church interment records also include Lawrence Mackowski's death on Nov 29, 1910. He was interred in St Joseph Cemetery in South Bend.
