South Bend - Loretta Ebel, 96, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019. Loretta was born May 19, 1923 in South Bend to the late William and Helen (Malkowski) Mixtacki. She married the love of her life, Frank Ebel; he preceded her in death on April 27, 2011. Left to cherish her memory are her son, James (Constance) Ebel of South Bend; grandchildren, Rachel Alexis Ebel, Addam (Christel) Ebel, and Allison (Bryan) Van Dyke; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Anna, and Jack. Loretta retired in 1985 from the South Bend School Corporation. She was a parishioner of St. Casimir Catholic Church, a member of the Senior Citizens, M.R. Falcons, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Loretta was a huge Notre Dame and Cubs fan. She loved to get her hair done every 2 weeks and go to the store each Sunday, where she enjoyed chatting with everyone she met. When Loretta was younger, she loved to golf and bowl with Frank. Sometimes they would travel to away ND games together. She always looked forward to taking the grandkids to the lake for a few weeks every summer; it was a tradition started when Jim was young. Loretta was known for her delicious banana bread that her family will miss. Family was her pride and joy, she loved to spend time with them. A private Funeral Ceremony has been held. ST.
