MISHAWAKA - Lydia May Horn, of Mishawaka, passed away on September 5th in the Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of South Bend. Lydia was born on June 19, 1922, in Hamburg, Germany, to John E. and Adelheid (Diehl) Shaffer. Brought to America by her mother and father and settled in Bremen, IN. In 1924 they moved to Mishawaka. She was a graduate of Mishawaka High School class of ‘42. On December 12, 1953, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Mishawaka, she married Bobby Lee Horn. One of Lydia's early employments was at Bendix Home Appliance as a secretary. She also helped produce an ad that she appeared in. The ad was placed in Life Magazine. She retired in 1998 from Hickory Village Apartments, where she was employed as an assistant manager. After retirement she worked part-time at Litho Arts, Inc. Lydia is survived by her loving husband, Bobby Lee Horn, and their children, Cynthia Ritz of Lawton, Michigan, Martin Horn of Redding, California, and Valerie (Stuart) O'Dell of Huntsville, Alabama. Lydia was the proud grandmother of Paul VanSchoyck of Gravel Lake, Michigan.Lydia was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church since 1955. She was a den mother for Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, helped start Widowers and Widows ministry. Lydia loved celebrating Easter, Christmas and family birthdays. Thank you Lydia for sharing your life with family and friends. Lydia suffered from dementia the last seven years, living at Cardinal Nursing Home for over two years. Lydia's parents are deceased and a son, Jack McCoskey, who died in 2009. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. Fr. Tom Shoemaker will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, with one hour of visitation prior to the Mass at Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 North Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN. Burial is to follow at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Published in South Bend Tribune from Sept. 8 to Sept. 9, 2016
