SOUTH BEND - Rose Mandich, 94, passed away at 12:52am Thursday, October 5, 2017 in Memorial Hospital. Rose was born on July 12, 1923 in Universal, Indiana to Steve and Amelia (Hrstic) Solomon. In 1934, her family moved to Indianapolis where she had her first job, with American United Insurance Company. She also was employed by R.R. Mallory Co. At the outbreak of WW II she worked at Stout Field and later at Fort Benjamin Harrison. On July 27, 1946 she moved to South Bend where she married Paul Mandich, a recently retired navy veteran. In South Bend, she worked for the South Bend Community School Corporation as a secretary in the administration building for 28 1/2 years. Rose was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox Church and served as its President for 3 1/2 years, was a member of its Aleksa Shantich Church Choir and the Ladies Auxiliary. Preceding her in death were her husband, Paul Mandich, son, Paul Mandich Jr., sister, Mildred Medich, and brothers, John & Steve Solomon. Surviving is her daughter, Melanie Mandich of San Francisco. Funeral Services will be celebrated at 11:00am Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in Sts. Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox Church, 59250 Keria Trail, South Bend, IN 46614. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may gather from 4-8 Tuesday in the church where a prayer service will be recited at 7:00pm.
