SOUTH BEND - Evelyn G. Vance, 91, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014, in her residence surrounded by her family. Evelyn was born June 29, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Reinhold and Florence (Urbanski) Zeigert. Evelyn was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Maggie Vance. On May 8, 1948, Evelyn married her loving husband of 66 years, Joseph S. Vance. He survives along with their children, Linda (Russ) Dawson of Osceola, Pamela Wallace of South Bend and Stephen Vance of Ft. Dodge, IA; grandchildren, Jennie Eaton, Russ Dawson III, David Dawson, Lisa Stifal, Tina Scott and Chaz Vance; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Hannah, Leah, Hailee, Zoe, Mia, Makayla, Gavin, Fiona, Avery and Jasper; brother, Jack Zeigert of South Bend; and special buddy, Denise Jansen of South Bend. Evelyn was employed with South Bend Toy and Robertson's Department Store. She was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Evelyn enjoyed sewing, baking, collecting post cards, recipes, and playing weekend card games. Most of all, she enjoyed family gatherings. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Center for Hospice Care for their loving support as well as Sue Ryan and Ida Chase. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 920 Wilbur Street, South Bend, with a one hour visitation prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Foundation, 4220 Edison Lakes Pkwy., Suite 210, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
