SOUTH BEND - Susan Gyongyi Vicen, 61, of South Bend, IN passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016 after a long battle with lung cancer. She was surrounded by friends and family at the time. Susan was born in Sopron, Hungary to the late Erno and Maria (Kluk) Varga on May 28, 1955 and moved to South Bend with her family in 1981. On June 28, 1975, in Sopron, she married Imre A. Vicen who preceded her in death on August 23, 2003. She is also survived by two sons, Csaba Vicen and Thomas Vicen of South Bend; a grandson, Chase Vicen of South Bend; her sister, Maria (Arpad) Eperjesi of South Bend; brother-in-law, John Burus of South Bend; and three nephews, John Burus of Mishawaka, Ernie Burus of South Bend and Thomas Burus of South Bend. Susan was employed as a Paraprofessional at Jackson in The South Bend School Corporation. Susan worked with special needs children and loved them and the staff she worked with as her own family. Susan also worked as a greeter at Walmart until she retired in 2015. Susan was also an avid gardener and loved planting a garden and caring for her flowers as well. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be held for Susan on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, August 10 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Burial will take place at Southlawn Cemetery.Contributions in memory of Susan may be made to the charity of the donor's choice .
