MISHAWAKA - Mishawaka - Marguerite (Vander Heyden) Barrow passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016 in Southfield Village in South Bend at age 101. Marguerite was born on June 29, 1915 in Mishawaka to Raymond and Julienne (Braeckelaere) Vander Heyden. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Adrienne (George) Mueller. On February 12, 1949 she married Wayne Barrow. He preceded her in death. Surviving are her brother, Albert Vander Heyden of Mishawaka, several nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. Marguerite served in the American Red Cross during World War II, both in England and Hawaii, where she was assigned to work with returning prisoners of war from the South Pacific. She was a member of the Women in Military Service for America (WIMSA). Marguerite was member of the First United Methodist Church of Mishawaka, Order of the Eastern Star in Osceola, and the Mishawaka Garden Club. She conducted several tours to Europe and Hawaii for Vander Heyden Travel Agency until she retired in 1985.Visitation will be on Monday, December 19 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street. Mishawaka, as well as from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 20th, with a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home. They would like a special Thanks to the staff of Southfield Nursing Home for the excellent care of Marguerite that she received during her stay there. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Methodist Church in Mishawaka, or to a charity of the donor's choice .
